One of the best attributes about Spooky Empire's May-Hem that is not brought up often is that after it is over fans only have to wait five months before Spooky Empire's Ultimate Horror Weekend takes place. Summer always flies by fast, so it really doesn't feel like a long time. This weekend October 25-27, Spooky Empire returns for their 11th year.
This may sound like a really silly statement, but this year Spooky Empire's Ultimate Horror Weekend may have over done it when it comes to the celebrity guests they booked this year. The ability to attract great guests year after year is one of the staples of Spooky Empire and 2013 could very well be the most impressive of all. For starters, George Romero, the man who practically gave birth to the whole zombie genre that is still popular today will be at Spooky Empire for the entire weekend. There's little doubt he will have a heck of a autograph line and his Q&A at 4:00 pm could very well end up being standing room only.
There are many more great guests coming this year to Spooky Empire's Ultimate Horror Weekend. Frequent guests Kane Hodder and the lovely Danielle Harris will both be returning. Rock legends Peter Criss of KISS and Dee Snider of Twisted Sister will be at Spooky Empire too. On Saturday fans will get an opportunity to take their photos with Dee in his famous Twisted Sister attire and makeup. There is also going to be a cast reunion of the original, 1974 of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre". This is a huge deal and fans can expect another standing room only session when their Q&A takes place on Sunday afternoon. These guests are only the top of the iceberg. If the only selling point Spooky Empire's Ultimate Horror Weekend had to offer were a bunch of celebrity guests, no matter how impressive they are, they wouldn't really be set apart from the other horror conventions. There will be a plethora of other activities and events going on the entire weekend once again beginning with the annual zombie walk. The convention is taking place at the DoubleTree at the Entrance to Universal and the walk begins just up the road from it at Hooters, 5300 Kirkman Road. The walk begins at 4:00, but arrive early to get your zombie makeup professionally done.
Once again there will be many different workshops and seminars happening all weekend. The tattoo room is back and this year they have some artists who were featured on "Ink Master". Spooky Empire always brings in some real rocking bands and they got some great ones booked again. Those who missed having the pool party last October need not worry because it will be back in full swing at the DoubleTree. There will also be a Midnight screening of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" hosted by Patricia Quinn on Friday night and a Midnight screening of "Repo: The Genetic Opera" hosted by Bill Moseley, Ogre, Alexa Vega on Saturday night. Click HERE to see the full schedule of parties and events that will be taking place.
Speaking of movies, the Freak Show Horror Film Festival is back for its eighth year. They have another long lineup of short and feature films this year. Click HERE to see the full schedule of the film festival. In addition to the festival films, other movies will be shown during the convention including a screening of "Strangeland " that will be introduced by Captain Howdy himself, Dee Snider.
Gina and Petey Mongelli always works hard to make sure Spooky Empire's Ultimate Horror Weekend does not become stale or get labeled "Same old. Same old." That's why they've teamed up with places such as MuckleBones to bring new attractions to the convention. This year they got something really cool planned, a special museum tribute to one of the favorite Disney attractions of all time, The Haunted Mansion! Click HERE for more information.
Other notable events will be a psychic medium show with Mary Barrett, the celebrity poker tournament, a costume contest, and of course, a huge vendor room you have to see to believe. A weekend pass to the event is only $55 if you buy your tickets in advance (they are $65 at the door). If you can't spend the whole weekend there, a ticket for Friday or Sunday is only $35 if purchased in advance ($40 at the door) and a Saturday ticket is $40 in advanced ($45 at the door). You can purchase your tickets by clicking HERE.
As stated earlier, Spooky Empire's Ultimate Horror Weekend is taking place at the DoubleTree by Hilton at Universal located at 5780 Major Blvd, in Orlando.
