The Civil War—also known as the War Between the States—ended in 1865, marking the end of slavery. An estimated 620,000 lives were lost during the four year war, which still exceeds the nation’s loss in all of its other wars, from the Revolutionary through Vietnam.
Whether directly associated with many of the epic battles fought in the Civil War or an indirect correlation to the massive bloodshed, there have been countless tales and eyewitness accounts of what is still believed to linger throughout most of the areas ravaged by the war; ghosts.
Elsinore Productions, a Memphis based production company, has just put the final touches on a film entitled Ghosts of War, an in-depth documentary delving into the seasoned belief that many areas affiliated with the Civil War are considered haunted.
Paranormal Inc, owned and operated by Rich Newman (author of The Ghost Hunter’s Field Guide and who also heads up Elsinore Productions) conducted thorough paranormal investigations of six different homes stretching across five different states, as well as multiple battlefield locations whose grounds saw first-hand the devastation of the Civil War.
The evidence captured at these locations—as well as interviews obtained with onsite caretakers—is what comprises Ghosts of War, and with the belief that the most gruesome deaths make for an even more gruesome haunting, Mr. Newman assures me that what’s revealed will leave skeptics debating themselves.
Magnolia Manor, located in Bolivar, Tennessee, is one of the featured locations that Paranormal Inc investigated for the film. The 1849 Colonial home turned Bed and Breakfast played an intricate part of the Civil War, being designated as headquarters for the Union army by Generals Logan, McPherson, Sherman, and Grant, and rumor has it that the Battle of Shiloh was strategically and meticulously blueprinted within the confines of its walls.
Elsinore Productions plan to have test screenings of Ghosts of War at the movie house that rests just across the street from Magnolia Manor during the weekend of September 24th before its official release this coming Winter, and there’s no doubt that watching the onscreen footage unfold will send a chill down your spine, especially when the charming home is looming down on you the minute you walk out of the theatre.
Magnolia Manor also offers seasonal ghost tours, but is also available for weddings and other, non-ghostly events.
