Spokane cat lovers make use of old decks of cards

Cat fanciers in Spokane are making use of their old decks of cards. They are constructing delightful Valentine’s Day decorations from the heart-suit and making their homes, offices, classrooms, even cars festive with a Valentine-Cat theme.

The items you will for this charming craft are the heart-suits from an old deck of playing cards; if you don’t have an old deck you can purchase a new deck for $1.00 at craft stores or The Dollar Tree. You will also need photographs of your cat, scissors, a glue stick, construction paper, and a permanent marker.

Cut out the face of your cat from the photograph. You can also make copies of the photograph on card stock and laminate them. Now simply glue the photograph on top of the card and let it dry. It’s also fun to paste the cats face on top of the King, Queen, and Jack’s face for a royal look.

Write a purrsonal message on the cardstock with a cat theme such as “You are purrfect,” “I think you’re supurr,” “It’s mewmarlous to know you,” etc.

Poke a hole through one of the cards, strand embroidery thread through it and hang it from your rear view mirror. You can also add a small magnet and decorate your refrigerator or file cabinet with the special cards. They also make wonderful bookmarks.

Some children select the card with the number that matches their age while others chose the number that matches their cat’s age.

All agree, it is a fun family project that even the youngest child can participate in.
