With "Supernatural's" ninth season set to begin in 31 days, fans are starting to wonder what the season will hold for both the Winchesters and the rest of the crew.
The eighth season finale left the door open for the potential return of many favorites as well as the question of what would happen to several key characters, such as Castiel (Misha Collins) and Crowley (Mark Sheppard.)
In a recent interview, Mark Sheppard shed a little bit of light on Crowley's fate this season. It seems Sam's actions in the season finale had more of an impact on Crowley than could have been expected.
While Crowley will not return fully human (per executive producer Jeremy Carver,) there were repercussions from the spell Sam used to try to "cure" a demon. According to Sheppard,
The best explanation is this: while Sam tried to humanize Crowley with the supposed cure, while they didn't complete that cure there are certainly residual effects from taking that path. There is definitely a residual effect. Whether Crowley likes it or not, there is a residual effect..."
Viewers already know that Castiel will return as a human this season as Metatron took his grace and sent him back to Earth before shutting the doors to Heaven in the eighth season finale. The idea of Crowley, the King of Hell, grappling with warm fuzzies toward the human population will be an interesting story line, to say the least.
So what do you think of the news? How do you think Crowley will be affected? Will the King of Hell develop a fondness for both the Winchesters and humanity, as a whole? Comment below with your thoughts.
