It appears that SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) in Clayton County has taken precedent over other county matters. In a recent community meeting that was held on April 15, 2014. There is a major concern for the Southern Regional Hospital. Though this hospital resides in the Riverdale area, the impact of its closing would cause detriment to the citizens of Clayton. This of course impacts citizens who are facing tough economic hardship even if it appears there is an upswing to the nation’s economy. The closing of the hospital would also mean that citizens would have to travel to the city of Atlanta to receive medical care along with added costs. Mayors of the respected cities within Clayton County rallied their support to save the hospital but it takes more effort which requires Clayton County citizens to support SPLOST, and ensure the hospital along with other county initiatives are saved during another challenging moment in Clayton County’s history.
Citizens of Clayton, support for the SPLOST because of the long term effects on residents and business owners throughout Clayton County.
