SPLC smears conservative groups with 'hate' label

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) claims to be a non-partisan organization that opposes “hate” and campaigns for justice and civil rights, yet the group is the most partisan and far left organization in the country. While the SPLC is intensely against the obvious hate perpetrated by white supremacist and neo-nazi groups (who isn't?), they ignore the far more prevelant and obvious hate perpetrated by the far left against Christians and conservatives. In fact, the SPLC itself aids, abets, and condones and enabled that hate of conservatives and Christians by its supporters on the far left.

SPLC smears Christian and conservative groups by labeling them as "hate" groups

The SPLC maintains a list of those groups they define as “hate” groups via their web site. That list has inspired incidents of domestic terrorism, including the shooting at the Family Research Council. Floyd Lee Corkins, II who attacked the Washington, D.C. office of the Family Research Council (FRC), was influenced by a “hate” list maintained by the left-leaning Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC). Corkins, who fired shots at the FRC office last year and had intended to murder several at that office, said he found out about the organzation and the location of it's office in Washington, D.C. from the FRC being listed as a “hate” organization by the SPLC web site.

The Family Research Council, a mainstream conservative organization that favors marriage and traditioal family values while opposing same-sex marriage and special privileges for homosexuals, is smeared by the SPLC by their listing of the FRC as a “hate” group. Opposing the far-left homosexual agenda is defined as “hate” by the SPLC, and gets such a group on their list, while the far left groups that support the political correct anti-Christian agenda are never listed. You'll never see groups like ACT-UP and Queer Nation, obvious hate groups, listed as such by the SPLC on their list.

Joe Newby, Spokane Conservative Examiner, covered this issue, writing, “The left wing Southern Poverty Law Center has released a report listing eighteen organizations - mostly conservative Christian organizations - as "anti-gay" for their opposition to homosexuality. The report says 13 of the 18 groups listed will be identified as "hate groups" because of their views and written positions on the subject of homosexuality.”

Coral Ridge Ministries was another Christian group smeared by the SPLC listing as well. And as Joe Newby reported, they are also pushing back against the designation, “Robert Knight, Washington correspondent for Coral Ridge Ministries, also took offense at the listing, and said the SPLC "...defines what a hate group is all about..." In an article posted at World Net Daily, he attacked the SPLC, saying, "Smearing legitimate groups merely for disagreeing about homosexuality is a very hateful act."”

Muslims are equally against the homosexual lifestyle, yet no Muslim groups are listed as hate groups on the SPLC's web site, nor are any atrocities against homosexuals in Muslim societies every condemned by the SPLC.

The latest edition of the SPLC “hate” group list is out and Vision to America reports their parents organization, Liberty Alliance, a conservative oriented web-based publishing group, is listed as a “hate” group by the SPLC. The Liberty Alliance affiliates with a long list of conservative-oriented blogs and web sites, including several web sites and blogs published by women and minorities who are also conservative in their political views. The Liberty Alliance include web sites published by Allen West, Alfonzo Rachel, Deneen Borelli, Jan Morgan, Victoria Jackson and others. The Liberty Alliance also includes web sites titled Girls Just Wanna Have Guns, PolitiChicks, The Black Sphere, and others. Even the web site of Joe the Plumber is among those it affiliates with.

This is the list of groups maintained by the SPLC on their web site. Legitmate conservative organizations that oppose the far left agenda on issues like homosexuality, same-sex marriage, liberal immigration policies are smeared as “hate” groups by being listed, along side, and on the same list with actual neo-nazi and white supremacist hate groups. Such biased and partisan listing of conservative groups for opposing the far left agenda cheapens the list and dininishes it's credibilty as a listing of actual hate groups.

Clearly, the SPLC is not an objective or non-partisan anti-hate group, and in smearing conservative and Christian orgnanizations, they are inspiring real acts of hate such as the shooting at the Family Research Council office in Washington D.C. by a shooter who obtained information about that group, and the location of its office, from the SPLC list.
