Downtown seafood hot spot Splash Seafood Bar & Grill has been one of Des Moines' most highly-regarded restaurants for going on 15 years now. The four Jethro's BBQ locations are among the Metro's most popular and successful barbecue restaurants. Metro diners are not the only people taking notice. The Iowa Restaurant Association has named the owner of Splash and the Jethro's BBQ restaurants, Bruce Gerleman, 2012 Iowa Restaurateur of the Year.
This is not the first honor that Gerleman has received over the years. Splash earned Wine Spectator's Award of Excellence 12 years in a row and was also a DiRoNA Award recipient (one of only two restaurants in Iowa to win the prestigious award). The original Jethro's restaurant has been featured on the Travel Channel's Man v. Food, was a runner-up in ESPN's National Fanwich contest, was named the Travel Channel's "Manliest Restaurant in the Midwest", and was named Better Homes & Gardens magazine's "Favorite Barbecue".
