Spirit guides watch over us, protect us, and are concerned about our well-being and generally come to us for very specific purposes. In times of crisis or when our lives are in danger, they are there to help us. At those times, many of us call them our Guardian Angel's.
The choices we make everyday aren't usually influenced by our spirit guides, but they do provided spiritual wisdom when we invite them in through meditation or dreaming, for example.
Some believe that spirit guides have lived many past lives and have advanced beyond reincarnation or were chosen by humans who were about to reincarnate and would like assistance.
Spirit guides may be:
1. Ascended Masters such as Jesus, Buddha, or Krishna are spirit guides who led a physical life on earth or moved on to a higher plane of existence. Ascended Masters watch over a collective group of souls.
2. Ancestral Guides are those family members or long-dead ancestors who went before us and are now watching over us.
3. Animal guides are with you as companions. Usually a deceased pet that stays around and helps you during your grieving process. Native American's and shamans make animal totems that are there for protection and teaching.
4. Common Spirit Guides may appear to you in the form of a warrior or storyteller for example. These types of spirit guides are there to teach and guide you. They provide insight through your meditations or when you are dreaming. They usually stay with you for as long as you need them before they move on.
Contacting your spirit guide:
You can contact your spirit guide either through astral projection, lucid dreaming, or through mind visualization/telepathically.
As an aside, if you've made contact with a being through the use of a Ouija Board or other divination means, chances are good that you are not in contact with your spirit guide. These are usually very sinister beings who will prey upon you and play on your weaknesses.
