There has been a lot discussion surrounding the existence of curses. Some Christians (and non-Christians) believe that generational (spiritual) curses still exist today. Do they?
Ask a Christian who believes that generational curses still exist, and they’ll point to health and family history. Said one Christian who believes in generational curses:
“You look at alcoholism and different types of abuses, and how they run in and through families. This is not an accident or a coincidence. You look at how certain diseases impact some families more than others, and can draw only one conclusion. Some families are haunted by the sins of their ancestors.”
Others point to the curse on the Canaanites as a people, and view it as a curse that God never lifted.
Those who believe that curses are a thing of the past point to the words of the Apostle Paul and Jesus as unimpeachable evidence.
“The disciples asked Jesus whether the sins of a mother or father were the reason a man was blind from birth. His answer was that the man was blind so that the glory of God could be revealed in his life. It had nothing to do with the parents; it was all about the power of God.”
Others look at the apostle Paul who proclaimed that Jesus became a curse to redeem man from the curse of the law. We who believe in Him are free from the curse.
“Man is responsible for his or her own salvation. Once we confess and believe; the word curse is no longer a part of our DNA.”
The danger in all this is how you feel. If you think you are cursed; then, because the Bible says that we are who we think we are (in our hearts); you are. Also, those who have not accepted Christ still live under the curse of the law.
“These examples only apply to a person, and not to a generation.”
