Two Newbery Award-winning children’s authors will be at Politics & Prose Monday, Jan. 7 at 10:30 am.
Clare Vanderpool, whose debut novel, Moon Over Manifest, won the 2012 Newbery Medal, will read from Navigating Early, a novel about two young boys who embark on a quest to find a Great Appalachian Bear in the mountains. Booklist said: “ . . . Vanderpool’s sharp, honest narrative, sparkling with the stars of the night sky, pieces together an elaborate, layered plot with precision, weaving multiple threads into a careful, tidy conclusion. . .”
The popular and prolific Jerry Spinelli, best known for the novels Maniac Magee and Wringer, will also be at Politics & Prose, discussing his new book Hokey Pokey. It’s a coming-of-age tale set in a town where childhood is full of simple delights. But after Jack’s bike is stolen, everything starts to change and Jack must, too. Kirkus Reviews called the book "masterful" and "bittersweet."
