Try sipping a banana pina colada cocktail smoothie this summer when you are looking for something unique, unusual and refreshing to cool down and relax the night or afternoon away. One great thing about this recipe is that it can be converted from a cocktail made with alcohol to a non-alcoholic beverage for children.
Some adults may also like this option too if they aren’t drinkers or are taking medications that stipulate no alcohol consumption. This fast and easy mix of ingredients with or without the rum will think you went out for a cocktail without spending those high prices for a single drink and you never have to leave the safety and comfort of your home or backyard.
The pina colada name means strained pineapple. Fresh pineapples were pressed and strained to obtain the juice that went into the cocktails when they were first created. Since 1978 the pina colada has been the official beverage of Puerto Rico where it was originated in San Juan. There is even an official day designated to celebrate the pina colada and that is June 10 and it is celebrate far and wide by people in and out of the country.
To liven up the party, make it a little more tropical or beach worthy place just a little paper umbrella in the glasses after the drinks are poured for some added affect.
