Spike Lee who is nearing the end of his Kickstarter campaign took to the web to answer questions from contributors and fans recently. The revealing Q & A event took place on the filmmaker’s Youtube Channel Monday evening and covered a wide range of topics from his crowd funding endeavor, his past work, whether he’ll work with Wesley Snipes again and his devotion to the New York Knicks.
The “Malcolm X” director who is very close to his goal of $1.25 million dollars with less than a week left to go in his campaign was asked about collaborating again with Snipes who starred in several of his joints over two decades ago. The action star was released from prison back in the spring after serving time for tax evasion.
“I think he’s going to do that Stallone film (“The Expendables 3”). We’ve talked. I visited him in prison and we’ll work again. The first time was “Mo’ Better Blues” , the second time was “Jungle Fever”...and then he blew up,with the uh, I don’t know how many “Blade” films he made. But we’re very happy that Wesley’s back with his family, he’s a free man and I do want to work with him…and also looking for the fifth project to work with Denzel Washington too. Let’s count em, in order “Mo’ Better Blues”, “Malcolm X”, “He got Game”, “Inside Man”. So we’re looking for that fifth film, that will be the fifth collaboration between the great, magnificent Denzel Washington and myself.“
Washington who co-starred with Snipes in “Mo’ Better Blues” scored at the box office recently with the action comedy “2 Guns”. Lee will be back in theaters with the remake of the South Korean classic “Oldboy” in November while “The Expendables 3” co-starring Snipes is expected to be released in 2014.
