SPIKE JONZE

Best Screenplay

(“Her”)

Of all the rooms that you shot in for “Her,” which one was your favorite?

Jonze: We actually spent the first two weeks of our shoot in the apartment where he lived, and it was an apartment in the building called the Watermark in downtown L.A., about ten of us in this tiny little apartment. And it was this very intimate set, very rare for a movie to have just so few people, but the idea was to help try to create an environment where Joaquin [Phoenix] could feel like he was alone in the apartment, and watching moments that were almost unbearably intimate with him. We spent two weeks in there in this little bubble.

What’s next for you? And did you ask Siri about your movie?

Jonze: I did. She’s a little jealous of Scarlett [Johansson]. I don’t have any plans of starting any other stuff.

Amy Adams (“Her” co-star): Spike is the best. I know I am up here for “American Hustle,” but I just want to say how proud I am of “Her” as well. Spike Jonze, a true pleasure.
