Spielberg's 'Lincoln' set photo with Daniel Day-Lewis is released

Steven Spielberg-directed Licoln, starring Daniel Day-Lewis, is currently being shot in Richmond, Virginia.  A new set photo featuring Day-Lewis (as Abraham Lincoln) and Spielberg has been released online, thanks to Richmond Times-Dispatch

"The film has had a significant impact on the Richmond region," said Rita McClenny, the Virginia film commissioner. "Not only the economics, the revenue and the jobs created, but certainly the excitement scale has been off the charts... People that we normally see either in a magazine or on the Web or in a book… they are among us in the community, as a part of Richmond, for the last few weeks."

The movie's economic impact on the region is estimated to be $35 million in direct spending. (Source: Richmond Times-Dispatch)

Sally Field will be playing Mary Todd Lincoln.  Joseph Gordon-Levitt will play their oldest son, recent Harvard graduate and new Union Army captain Robert Todd Lincoln.

The movie is based on the book Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln by Doris Kearns Goodwin. According to DreamWorks, the film "will focus on the political collision of Lincoln and the powerful men of his cabinet on the road to abolition and the end of the Civil War." (Source: SlashFilm)  According to Spielberg, much of the film will focus on the last few months of Lincoln's life, the ending of slavery and the Union victory of the Civil War.

"Daniel Day-Lewis is extraordinary; I think he may be one of the best actors ever that we've worked with," producer Kathleen Kennedy recently told Collider. "We're about three quarters of the way through and it's been amazing, I mean he is really quite remarkable. Every day you get the chills thinking that Lincoln is sitting there right in front of you." Directed by Steven Spielberg, and starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field, Tommy Lee Jones, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Hal Holbrook, James Spader, John Hawkes, and Tim Blake Nelson,  Lincoln comes to theaters to Orange County theaters on 2012.
