A spider invasion closes a school in Britain. False widow spiders were found in several areas of Dean Academy. The school closed for one day so that it could be fumigated. False widow spiders are considered the most dangerous spiders in the area so it was important for them to be controlled quickly.
"This will enable pest control to fumigate every area in the academy and ensure every one's health and safety," said Vice Principal of Dean Academy, Craig Burns. While no students or staff members have reported being bitten, the symptoms of one of these bites are very serious. They include "swelling, chest pain, and tingling of extremities."
The spider invasion closed this school for preventative reasons and experts believe that one fumigation treatment will do the trick. Students are expected back in school tomorrow or on Monday the latest. Hopefully all of the false widow spiders are taken care of -- but this doesn't mean that they won't be back. Scientists believe that influx of the venomous spiders is due to the warmer climate. This means that these dangerous spiders could be around for a long time.
If this is the case, false widow spiders could pose more of a problem to more areas of the country, not just at one school.
A spider invasion that closes a school is something serious and parents of any students suspected of being bit should seek medical attention immediately.
