Shrimp are always a great choice for a quick weeknight meal, but this recipe is extremely versatile. These spicy, garlicky grilled shrimp can be a fast midweek meal or a delicious supper for a crowd. Plus, if you happen to have any leftovers (unlikely but…) they make an unbelievable shrimp cocktail.

The quickest way to get the spicy and garlicky into spicy, garlicky shrimp is a marinade. In this recipe, I made a very potent blend of garlic, red pepper flakes, salt, pepper, oil and lemon juice. Shrimp should not be marinated for more than 30 minutes or they will begin to cook, so it’s best to make this marinade ahead – to let the marinade marinate – and only mix with the shrimp while your grill is heating up.

I was lucky enough to find some beautiful Wild Louisiana Gulf shrimp for this recipe. I do not hesitate in saying that these are the best tasting shrimp you can get. The flavor is so clean and fresh, it does not compare to anything else.

Spicy Garlicky Grilled Shrimpfeeds 6 as a meal or 8-10 as an appetizer

  • 3lbs 21/25 shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • ½ cup olive oil
  • ¼ cup freshly squeezed lemon juice

In a large bowl, combine all ingredients except the shrimp until well blended. Let it sit at room temperature for at least 20 minutes to let the flavors marinate.

While your grill is heating up, toss the shrimp together with the marinade and refrigerate for no longer than 30 minutes.

Place the shrimp on a preheated grill and cook for 3 minutes on the first side, flip and cook for another 1-2 minutes on the next. For a little extra flavor, slice a lemon in half and place on the grill to char. To finish, squeeze the charred lemon juice over the shrimp and serve.
