The "Oscars" of the specialty food Industry, the sofi Awards, has taken notice of The Gracious Gourmet. The company's Spiced Sour Cherry Spread received a sofi Silver Award for Outstanding Condiment.
The three-day judging extravaganza reviewed thousands of products vying for recognition as the most outstanding foods of the year among members of the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade (NASFT). Now, Spiced Sour Cherry Spread and the other finalists will be judged at the NASFT Summer Fancy Food Show in Washington, D.C., to compete for the Gold sofi Awards. On July 11, a red-carpet ceremony hosted by celebrity chef Cat Cora will announce the final winners at the Summer Fancy Food Show. NASFT's Foodspring magazine website has a complete list of finalists in all categories as well as information about the upcoming event.

"We have seen the popularity of the Spiced Sour Cherry Spread really take off during the past year. It is nice to get confirmation from industry peers that we have a winner in this spread."
Tart or "sour" cherries may have more than just good taste and bright red color going for them, according to animal research from the University of Michigan Cardiovascular Center.
Rats that received whole tart cherry powder mixed into a high-fat diet didn't gain as much weight or build up as much body fat as rats that didn't receive cherries. And their blood showed much lower levels of molecules that indicate the kind of inflammation that has been linked to heart disease and diabetes. Plus, they had significantly lower blood levels of cholesterol and triglycerides than the other rats.
