If you're looking for a way to spice up your look, why not start with your hair? A new hairstyle doesn't necessarily mean a cut and color, you can add to your beauty by simply adding a little natural shine to your hair. Here are a few easy steps you can add to your beauty regime, and probably the best part is that you can find these items right in your kitchen!
For shine and extra volume:
- Light hair/blondes: After shampooing your hair, apply some lemon juice to your hair. Rinse with cool water.
- Brunettes: After shampooing, apply dark beer or a flat beer to your hair. Rinse with cool water, and don't worry the smell will disappear shortly.
- Redheads: Brew strong tea and allow to cool. After shampooing your hair, rinse the tea through your hair. You can also take a vinegar rinse by mixing 6 parts water to 1 part cider vinegar.
For a natural color boost:
- Light hair/blondes: Dilute lemon juice with water and spritz on hair approximately 10 minutes prior to shampooing. After shampooing, rinse as normal. You can also brew chamomile tea, let it cool, then rinse through your hair.
- Brunettes: Brew coffee and let cool. Rinse through your hair before you shampoo. After shampooing, rinse with cool water or rinse with diluted vinegar.
- Redheads: Boil 5 orange tea bags in 3 cups of water. Allow it to simmer for at least 5 minutes and cool. After you shampoo, apply directly to hair as a final rinse.
If your hair is damaged from heat styling, extensions, or chemicals, you can try this homemade conditioner. Warm some natural oil (like olive oil or coconut oil). Apply to your hair paying close attention to your ends. Wrap your hair and scalp with a plastic shower cap, and for a deeper conditioning process, cover the plastic cap with a warm towel. Leave the conditioner on for at least 45 minutes (the hair shaft and follicles take at least half and hour to soak up the conditioner). Rinse with cool water as cool water helps close the follicle. Your hair will lay smoother from rinsing with cool water versus warm.
For a good protein treatment, eggs are your best friend. Beat as many eggs as you need depending on the length of your hair. Add your favorite oil (olive, castor, jojoba) if you desire. You can also add 1 teaspoon of vinegar. Apply the mixture to your hair and leave on for about half and hour. It's best to do a protein treatment before a deep conditioning because the protein treatment can leave your hair feeling dry. Afterwards, shampoo and style as desired.
