March 29, 2010 - When trying to lose weight, people often lament losing the tastes of their favorite full-fat and high-calorie dishes. And because the weight-loss transition often requires a move to more home-cooking, it can be difficult to find healthy, tasty dishes without falling into a rut.

Spices offer a healthy alternative to salt and fat and can open a new world of food to dieters and non-dieters alike. For a quick crash course in how to cook with spices, why not try The Art of Spices class at the Milwaukee Public Market? According to the Market, Liz Crawford will instruct the class on how to purchase, store, and properly cook with spices. Featured recipes include a Moroccan salad, lamb kebabs, a roasted chicken and more.

The Art of Spices class will be held at the Milwaukee Public Market Tuesday April 20 at 5:30 p.m. Cost is $19. You can register by calling the Market Office at 414-336-1111. And after your class you can shop for fresh ingredients right in the market. They'll even throw in a free hour of parking.
