Are you a rower trying to stay in shape or someone looking to blast fat and gain some muscle? Here is a perfect workout that is quick and easy and that can be adjusted for time and location.
At most health clubs such as Lifetime Fitness, LA Fitness, Anytime Fitness, and the other chains, there is a machine specific for your rowing needs. This contraption has the name of Ergometer, but is called an “erg” for short. The exercise even has the nickname of “erging” and the act has quite the reputation among rowers. Some love erging while others absolutely hate this exercise due to how it seems to replace real rowing at times.
Hit up the gym and discover the many machines from bikes, weights, and treadmills. Yes lurking in the corners is a rower’s best indoor friend, that pesky erg. Typically health clubs only have a few, such as in Lakeville’s Lifetime, where three ergs are set up in the front end of all of the aerobic machines. Every health club has at least a few ergometers for your indoor rowing use to help gain apt success.
Workout Time
It is a simple, yet an effective workout for the strongest of rowers to a standard person trying to add flavor to that gym routine.
Pyramid, no not the actual pyramids in Egypt, but the form is used. This means that you work your way to the top with large amount dwindling down to the top. A typical pyramid workout would be six minutes, then followed by a minute rest, then four minutes down to two, then you reach the top of the pyramid with one minute erging. Though you have hit the top and that means only one thing, climb back down so you would reverse the order from one minute to two, four, and ending with six. Now remember there is only a minute rest between each set time for erging.
Also the time amounts set for each erging piece are at the discretion of the person training. One is able to do whatever they wish ranging from 6,5,4,3,2,1 minutes to 4,3,2,1, to odd or even minutes. That is the beauty to this workout, it is simple, extremely simple. As long as you erg properly, the calories will burn and you will also strengthen muscle.
