Felt corsage
This year is my daughter's first halloween and while I told myself I would make all her costumes, I have since amended this to "make all costumes she will remember". It is hard enough being a first time mom without throwing in making a costume for a rapidly growing baby. So I bought one for $8 with the plan of snazzing it up to look homemade.
At this age, babies are hard to distinguish, gender-wise so I knew some pink was called for. I used some left over ribbon from her baby shower and hand stitched it over the sleeve seams. Then I made some fabric yo-yos fabric scrapes and used this picture of Heather Bailey's couch flower to make one of my own. I added the couch flower to the hood of the frog costume and randomly arranged and stitched on the yo-yos to the belly of the costume. I added one tiny bow to one of the feet of the costume for giggles. I love how it turned out and it is easy to do on your own. Find a
costume that is already cute and then add
some little details that you have the skill and time to make on your own and no one will be able to tell it started out at a store! Add some gold ribbon to a police uniform to make an Officer, cover some rubber tubbing (available at any home improvement store) for a fireman's hose, use your glue gun and some beads to add sparkle to a tiara. And don't forget to Google for ideas, you never know what will turn up! Happy Halloween!
