This weekend will bring plenty of events and deals at ski areas within the Twin Cities. Here is a quick rundown.
Afton Alps will offer group discounts on Saturday, January 26. It announces that "church, scout, 4-H & YMCA discount for 10 or more." You must call to register your group: (651) 436-5245, extension 200. Every 10 tickets gets you one free "chaperone ticket," so get your group ready today. The group rate for an all-day ticket is $42 for adults, $34 for seniors, and $32 for children 6 to 12 years old.
Trollhaugen will have live music in the Skolhaugen Lounge, featuring Silverback Colony. The show starts at 9 p.m. Come for the show, buy a lift ticket ($15) that starts at 10 p.m., and ride -- if you have the energy -- until 3 a.m.
Welch Village will have a food special this weekend. Alton's BBQ will park a trailer outside the main chalet, serving food from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Get some pulled-pork sandwiches or smokehouse cheeseburgers. And who says turkey legs are just for the state fair? You can get one of those, too. Welch will also have a "ghost wings" contest at the Madd Jaxx chalet. It's pretty simple: Pay $10, get 10 wings. Be the first person to eat them all, and you get a free season pass for next year. The event starts at 4 p.m.
Wild Mountain will have a "Friends and Family Fun Day" on Saturday. Adult lift tickets are $33, child (6 to 12) tickets are $23 (a discount of $10 for each) and rentals are $13, or half off. (By the way, let's give Wild some props for not charging a higher rate for snowboarding package than it does for skiing packages.) Head to the Wild Mountain website for your coupon.
