Labor Day is quickly approaching and there is plenty of fun things to do in and around the DMV. This year, take a moment to relax and reflect on the summer while looking forward to the fall! Swing by FLOFest DC this year and make that happen!
WHAT: FLOFest DC 2014 is a music, wine and literary festival designed to showcase Jazz, Latin, Alternative Rock music, specialty wines, international food and books for the public’s Labor Day enjoyment. It will take place Monday, September 1st with gates opening at 10 AM at the DC Gateway to showcase tastings and pairing workshops, an authors’ pavilion, and chef demonstrations by Chef Huda. Wines from award-winning vineyards including House of Mandela and Heritage Link will provide tastings throughout the FLOFest as well. FLOFest will be the first event of its kind to be held at Gateway DC. FLO selected the innovatively designed facility in support of the District’s larger revitalization of the East of the River community and the people who live there.
FLOFest DC is the creation of nationally renowned jazz artist and entrepreneur Marcus Johnson, who is CEO and Founder of FLO Brands, LLC and FLO Wine, LLC. The MC and host of the afternoon will be radio and TV personality Cortney Hicks. Cortney Hicks has a long-standing career, formerly the Radio One Inc. syndicated Midday Host for Detroit's 105.9 KISS and Washington DC’s, Majic 102.3. Entertainers for this special production include jazz artist Marcus Johnson; Rudy Gonzalez Latin Band; The Donvonte McCoy Latin Jazz Orchestra, and soulful rock songstress Beverly McClellan. Participants are encouraged to bring a folding chair or blanket to take a seat and enjoy the day of lively shows and cultural entertainment. Tickets for FLOFest can be purchased at www.flofestdc.com for $45 and include two food samplings and at least four wine tastings.
WHEN: Monday, September 1, 2014 (Labor Day) musical performances will begin at 12 Noon starting with battle of the DJs, followed by Beverly McClellan at 1:00 PM; Rudy Gonzales Latin Band at 2:00 PM; DJ performances with MC Cortney Hicks at 3:10 PM; Marcus Johnson at 4:00 PM, and closing out the performances is Donvonte McCoy Latin Jazz Orchestra at 5:10 PM.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
WHO: Beverly McClellan is the singer/songwriter who first gained notoriety as a contestant in the first season of the American TV series The Voice. Beverly is a skilled musician playing the piano, guitar, trumpet, French horn, mandolin, ukulele, bass guitar, djembe and a wide variety of drums and percussions. In 2004, she won the New York National Music Festival as Best Overall Performer amongst 500 contestants.
Rudy Gonzalez Latin Band is a high-energy, visual, and interactive diverse Latin band comfortably playing Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia and Latin Jazz that has set the bar for creating memorable dance parties. Rudy Gonzalez Y Su Locura is one of the top Latin bands in the Washington, DC area servicing the mid-Atlantic region. He has received critical acclaim from notable publications including The Washington Post, The City Paper, Fiesta DC, Tiempo Latino Newspaper and Baltimore Magazines.
Donvonte McCoy Latin Jazz Orchestra is the world renowned trumpeter and a District native. The Donvonte McCoy quintet has been a regular treat at Washington D.C.’s Eighteenth Street Lounge, as well as many other venues.
Marcus Johnson is the owner of FLO brand and a Washington native, as well an internationally renowned, Billboard Top 10, NAACP Image Award-nominated jazz musician and entrepreneur. Marcus Johnson has gained critical acclaim across the board from peers, media and the music industry. Over the last decade, Johnson has released 15 successful studio albums.
Chef Huda is a native of Massachusetts and a multi-talented celebrity chef, food and entertainment writer, fashionista, good food enthusiast and philanthropist. She is the CEO of Pretty and Delicious, a full service personal chef and culinary company, and was recently a favorite on ABC’s new show, “The Taste” with Anthony Bourdain, Nigella Lawson, Brian Malarkey and Ludo Lefebvre. Her delicious culinary creations have also received national rave reviews from A-list Hollywood celebrities to VIP’s.
In addition to live performances all day, guests will be able to nosh on items purchased from participating food trucks and enjoy a curated collection of exclusive FLO wines for $5 a cup. Confirmed Food Trucks include the following:
