“I and all the members of the critically acclaimed New Philharmonic orchestra are thrilled to return to our home at the MAC [McAninch Arts Center],” says Maestro Kirk Muspratt in regards to “Viennese Pops New Year’s Eve Celebration with an International Twist” at the MAC’s newly renovated Performance Hall.
Featuring waltzes, polkas, and other musical selections, the program takes place on Tuesday, December 31 at 4 and 9 p.m., with a live broadcast of the 4 p.m. performance.on 98.7 FM-WFMT.
The evening will begin with Josef Strauss’ “Little Chatterbox Polka” Op. 245, Johann Strauss Jr.’s the “Blue Danube Waltz” and Josef Strauss’ “Die Soubrette Polka” Op. 109. Special guest soprano Emily Birsan of Lyric Opera’s Ryan Opera Center will perform Adele’s “Laughing Song” from Johann Strauss Jr.’s “Die Fledermaus” as well as “Depuis le Jour” from Gustave Charpentier’s “Louise;” and Celia’s “Ecco: respire appena, lo son l’umile ancella” from Francesco Cilea’s “Adriana Lecouvreur.”
Works by Charles-Camille Saint-Saëns, Bedřich Smetana, Franz Liszt and John Philip Sousa are also featured in the celebratory evening replete with surprise encores, a New Year’s Eve champagne toast, the traditional “Auld Lang Syne” and more.
“It will be an evening to remember when we christen the new Performance Hall stage with our New Year’s Eve 2013 concerts,” adds Muspratt of the College of DuPage's Performance Hall on 425 Fawell Boulevard in Glen Ellyn.
