The summer movies are in full swing. “Shrek Forever After” was the number one movie this past weekend, taking in over $70 million dollars. Knock “Iron Man 2” out of the top spot after being there for the first two weeks on the new summer movie season. This weekend, Carrie and the girls are looking to shove that big green ogre back where he came from when “Sex and the City 2” opens and, fighting right alongside her, will be “The Prince of Persia and the Sands of Time”. Is your head swimming yet? If it is and you are looking something other than the next potential summer blockbuster, there is a film festival going on that may catch your interest, The Doc Miami International Film Festival.
Documentary films are not for everybody, but there are many fans of these films, otherwise they probably would cease to be. Most of the documentaries that are made have a hard time finding their way to the silver screen. Sure, bigger ones like “Casino Jack and the United States of Money” may find their way to your local multiplex, but other documentaries are not so fortunate. Thankfully, there are film festivals like the one down in Miami this Memorial Day weekend where people who enjoy this genre of film can get their fill.
Everything kicks off this Friday, May 28th at the Doral Golf Resort and Spa; so, right away, you know they are doing this festival in style! The movies get started bright and early at 10:00 AM, with the last film of the evening starting at 7:30. The night does not end with the last frame of the film, as a jazz concert will follow.
