Spelunkers - Plan Your Visit Now to Beautiful Round Springs Cave

Spelunking, or caving, is the perfect pastime for folks in the Springfield area. Afterall, Missouri, known as “the cave state” with its more than 5,300 registered and mapped wild caves and more than 20 show caves, is one of the nation’s top caving destinations.

Springfield’s “Take-a-Hike” – an outdoor enthusiast social group - has scheduled a spelunking trip to Round Spring Cavern near Eminence, Missouri, during the month of June.

Yes, it’s a few months off yet, but caving enthusiasts need to plan ahead to visit this beautiful half-mile deep cavern.

Members of the National Park Service take one small group, of 15 or less, on a two-hour lantern tour at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. each day from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Get there early, though, as sign-ups begin 30 minutes before the tour begins and they don’t take reservations.

Adult admission is $4.; Children, 12 and under, costs $2.

Reports are that this is a rather strenuous hike, so be sure to wear a jacket and good, sturdy boots.
