Spellbinder mixes up strange brew for ToST finale

Mix the rock propulsion of Santana’s Michael Shrieve with the psychedelic 60s hubris of Joe Doria, throw in some far-out sensations Danny Godinez, Farko Dosumov and John Fricke, and you have Spellbinder. For years, this rock-jazz quintet has been a Monday night fixture at Fremont, Seattle’s ToST lounge. This is a band other jazz and rock musicians flock to when they’re done with their gigs, just to groove out to some mind-blowing, off-the-cuff, on-the-fly masterpieces.

Unfortunately, tonight’s the last ToST show, and probably the last of ToST as a late-night establishment. Damn this terrible economy.

So drop everything, grab your friends, get over there, wish them well, and find out where else they’re planning to play. They have been known to do successful mini-tours on this coast from time to time.

Find ToST in Fremont, 513 N. 36th St., Seattle.
