A 27-year-old man was killed Saturday when he lost control of his vehicle, which ended up wrapped around a telephone pole in northwest Atlanta.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the man as Mr. Bisrat Haftom, of Atlanta.
And police said he was driving at a high rate of speed when he was killed.
Around 4 p.m., officers responded to a report of a wreck on Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive and Ollie Street, according to Atlanta police.
“When officers arrived on scene, they noticed a red 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle wrapped around a telephone pole,” police spokesman Sgt. Gregory Lyon said. “Preliminary investigation reveals that this vehicle was traveling east bound at a high rate of speed.”
The vehicle had just come out of a curve when the driver attempted to change lanes, crossed over the double yellow lines and struck the telephone pole, Sgt. Lyon said.
Mr. Haftom died at the scene, officials said.
