The Speech Pathology Group (SPG) is offering a Social Language Summer Adventure Camp designed to promote social skills and conversation through community outings. Geared toward children with Asperger syndrome, high-functioning autism, nonverbal learning disorder, ADHD, and anxiety, this program offers field trips led by speech-language pathologists who will support conversation and teach pro-social skills. Therapists will help campers with turn-taking, polite requesting, perspective taking, and interpreting nonverbal social cues. Outings may include miniature golf, bowling, a visit to the Lawrence Hall of Science, or a picnic at Heather Farms.

Three sessions, each consisting of two field trips and two hour-long clinic meetings, are available:

  • Session 1: field trips on 6/25 and 7/2
  • Session 2: field trips on 7/9 and 7/16
  • Session 3: field trips on 7/23 and 7/30

Field trips will take place on Fridays, 10 am-noon. In addition to these outings, campers will take part in weekly group sessions at the SPG clinic in Walnut Creek. SPG may also offer classes in its Berkeley clinic, depending on demand. Children ages 6-8 will form one camp group; another group will accommodate 9-12 year olds.

  • Cost: $300 per session; $850 for all three sessions. Fee includes two weekly therapy sessions, materials, and entrance fees.

In addition to their summer program, SPG offers social skills groups throughout the year for children ages 4-17. For more information, call 925-945-1474 x 100 or visit the website.
