March 1

ARC of Warren County will be meeting at the Alive Center at 5:30pm. New members always welcome. Bring a snack to share and enjoy the company of other parents, professionals and advocates.

The Arc of Barren county will provide classes for individuals with disabilities and their families at Cavary Baptist Church March 2 and on March 16th. Below is the provided information concerning both days. If you need any further information please contact Mr. Shaw @ 270-579-5000.

“Medicaid Waiver Services"
Session 1

Presenter: Alice Blackwell

In this session personnel from the Division of Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities will provide an overview and new changes of programs and services on Medicaid waivers and answer questions.

Session 2
"Estate Planning for Individuals w/Disabilities & Their Families"

Presenter: Attorney Brian Pack

Thinking about the issue of “what happens to those I love when I am no longer able to see to their needs” is a very emotional and challenging matter to address. This session will provide participants the opportunity to actually put into words their hopes and dreams for their family member or themselves for the future, under-stand the roles of the person with a disability’s money, the family’s money and the government’s money in putting a plan in place, and the legal mechanisms that need to be put into place to safeguard their plan. The differences between guardianship, Durable Powers of Attorney, Advance Directives, Wills, Trusts and Special Needs Trusts will be explained.

Special Olympics Basketball Barren County Flames vs Bowling Green Deputies and Bowling Green Express at Barren County Middle School. Games begin at 2pm.

March 4th

Best Buddies College Director, Sarah Fitzpatrick, and her buddy, David Essler will be on Mid Day Live during the 11:30 - noon segment.

March 5th

WKU Best Buddies International fundraiser will be held at Buckhead Restaurant on Campbell Lane in Bowling Green from 5pm to 9pm. 10% of every receipt dropped in the box by the register will be donated to the organization

March 6th

Special Olympics Basketball State Tournament at Hoops in Lousiville, Ky (select games will be carried live on-line on the SOKY TV web channel at www.ihigh.com/soky/.)

March 16th

The Special Olympics Kentucky State Cheerleading Competition at McBrayer Arena at Eastern Kentucky University. Cheer Force Sparklers will be performing at Mardi Gras Spirit Events.

Moments with Micah Workshop will take place at Heartland Elementary School Media Center on Saturday, March 16th 2013 from 9AM – 3PM This free event is for teachers, parents, or anyone wanting to learn more about how to help children. Have you thought about using CDO but needed more information? We will
discuss how to get started, ideas about finding, hiring and utilizing staff, what community supports should look like, how to find out what the person with the disability’s choices are, etc. People currently using CDO will be on hand to share their experiences and answer questions.
