Special K is being recalled by Kellogg because glass fragments were found in Special K Red Berries cereal packages. The packages are being sold by retailers across the United States. Below is a list of the recalled Special K cereal packages.
According to a Feb. 20, 2013, The Wall Street Journal report, the Special K cereal packages that are involved in the recall are:
- “the 11.2 ounce packages with UPC code 3800059923 and better if used before date of Dec. 2, 2013, followed by KNC 105 with a time stamp of 00:13-2:30;
- the 22.4 ounce twin pack with UPC code 3800078356 and better if used before date of Nov. 30, 2013, followed by KNA 105 with a time stamp of 07:00-08:51 or a time stamp of 15:00-17:05;
- the 37 ounce package with UPC code 3800020940 and a better if used before date of Nov. 30 followed by KNB 107 with a time stamp of 17:31-20:05."
Kellogg, the company that initiated the Special K recall, is asking customers to contact the company in order to receive a replacement coupon.
Besides Special K cereal packages, Kellogg also sells brands such as Pop-Tarts, Rice Krispies and Nutri-Grain.
The present recall is the third major recall by Kellog after mesh fragments were found last year in boxes of Mini-Wheats cereal. At that time, the Kellog recall affected 2.8 million boxes.
Just earlier this month, Nestle Prepared Foods had issued a recall for its Lean Cuisine frozen ravioli boxes because of glass shards in products.
According to Kellogg's website, customers who have the above listed Special K Red Berries cereal packages can contact the Kellogg Consumer Response Center or call the company "at 800-962-1413 Monday - Friday from 8AM – 6PM Eastern Time."
