Special golf discounts and events at several Orlando courses

The number 11 will be a lucky one for the Wounded Warrior Project, thanks to a program created by Golf Academy of America in Apopka.

Four GAA students, who are also military veterans, will play golf for 11 hours, 11 minutes and 11 seconds on November 11, 2011 to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. The marathon golf event will take place at Wekiva Golf Club in Longwood and will start at sunrise, or 6:45 a.m. that day. Sunset is at 5:34 p.m.

GAA is the largest and longest-running two-year golf career college in the world. The GAA students playing for the fundraiser include: Ryan Patterson, Navy veteran, of Kansas City, Mo.; Vic Smith, Air Force veteran, Gainesville; Dustin Stearns, Air Force veteran, Orlando; and Steve Sullivan, Air Force veteran, Shorewood, Ill.

Those interested in making a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project can drop them off at Wekiva Golf Club, or the GAA campus office in Apopka. Donations can also be taken over the phone by calling Golf Academy of America at 407-699-1990. All donations will go directly to support the Wounded Warrior Project and are tax-deductable. Those donating $10, or more, will receive a complimentary 30-minute golf lesson from one of the PGA professionals at GAA Orlando.
