Master Sgt. Bannar, 37, of Orange, Va., died Aug. 20, 2013, of injuries sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire in Wardak Province, Afghanistan.
He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, N.C.
Local news from Fredericksburg, Va. reports that Master Sgt. Bannar is survived by his wife Michelle and his father, George A. Bannar.
They also report that, at one time, Bannar ran the Military Freefall Parachutist Course at Yuma Proving Ground in Yuma, Ariz.
To date, there have been 2,128 U.S. troop losses in Afghanistan since the War on Terror began.
The family has not released information regarding services for their Soldier.
