Special Education: Planning for the Future and Special Needs Trusts

As students near adulthood, parents need to learn how to set up trusts or other supports so that their child with a disability or special needs is cared for during their adult life. Learning how to set up financial support correctly is important so that a person does not lose SSI or other benefits. One of the supports that may benefit a person with a disability is a Special Needs Trust. To help parents learn about what a Special Needs Trust is, on Friday, July 18, 2014 the Jeremiah's Ranch support group will host a meeting at the North Coast Warehouse in Fallbrook for families to learn about special needs trusts from attorney Elizabeth McCoy and about plans for Jeremiah's Ranch in general. Jeremiah's Ranch, a public benefit non-profit corporation, was founded by families of children with various special needs and disabilities to create a safe, nurturing planned community with a ranch style setting for their children to live as independently as possible. Jeremiah's Ranch also plans to offer vocational, social and life skills training and a community center for activities.
