United Cerebral Palsy of San Diego County has announced 2013 open labs for San Diego County. Open labs are times when individuals may explore assistive technology such as augmentative communication devices, software and computer access equipment that may support and facilitate the learning and living needs of a person with a disability. Open labs provide hands-on exploration and instructional assistance with assistive technology, not individual recommendations or assessments.
1. North County, San Diego
Time: All labs are offered from 9 am to 11 am
Location: 205 W. Mission Avenue, Suite G, Escondido, CA 92025
Dates: The following are the dates for the first quarter of 2013:
- Friday - January 18 (appointment must be made by 1/15/13)
- Thursday - February 21 (appointment must be made by 2/18/13)
- Wednesday - March 20 (appointment must be made by 3/15/13)

Lending "Library": The UCP also provides the San Diego Assistive Technology Center that has a lending library that loans a wide assortment of communication devices, computer hardware including alternative mice and keyboards, computer software and alternative access to communication devices and computers. There is also a "Toy Library". Loan periods are typically for 30 days depending on availability. Consumers, agency and school representatives, services providers and others working with individuals with disabilities can borrow equipment through this Assistive Technology program.
