Special Education: Auditory Processing Presentation - What parents need to Know

April 27, 2013, the Encinitas Learning Center will host a presentation on "Auditory Processing Deficit: What Parents Need to Know". The Encinitas Learning Center is partnering with Dr. Jay R. Lucker, Ed.D, CCC-A/SLP, FAAA to talk about the symptoms of auditory processing and the supports that can be provided to help children with auditory processing deficits.

Common symptoms of auditory processing deficits include:

  1. Mishearing/sound discrimination problems
  2. Problems following directions
  3. Problems attending to oral messages
  4. Distracted by background noises
  5. Poor organization of verbal material
  6. Oral and written expression difficulties
  7. Remembering what is heard
  8. Difficulties with reading (especially comprehension)

Details:
This discussion is primarily for parents and professionals to learn more about how this diagnosis affects school performance and what can be done to resolve the problem. If your child or student is in 3rd grade or above and struggling in school, this could be a "foundational" skill that needs help.
