Special education advocate's manual

I recently attended my son's IEP meeting and I used a wonderful resource that I would like to pass along to other parents of special needs children in Michigan. The Michigan Protection and Advocacy Service (MPAS) has published "Special Education: An Advocate's Manual". This publication explains statutes, regulations and legal requirements, and is designed to help you better understand and navigate the educational process. This nonprofit agency provides the manual free of charge, but will accept donations. Simply call (800) 288-5923 and one will be mailed out to you.

I highly recommend this manual. It is presented in binder form with tabs to separate the segments. Things can get pretty complicated when you’re trying to advocate for your children, especially as they get older, and this manual is loaded with helpful information on Michigan special education laws and statutes. Please call the toll-free number above and feel free to pass it along to other parents.
