Special Child Abuse & Neglect Training Program for Churches in Akron

AKRON, Ohio –March 2012 – A special free Training Program for Churches – entitled “Protect Your Church . . . Protect Your Children – Complying with Child Abuse & Neglect Reporting Laws” will be held on Saturday, April 21 from 9 a.m. to noon at Summit County Children Services, 264 S. Arlington St., Akron. The event is part of this year’s 25th Anniversary Child & Family Awareness Month celebration coordinated by Summit County Children Services.

In this program, presented by Summit County Children Services Community Education Manager Julia Mothersbaugh, LSW, church leaders and lay members will gain a better understanding of child abuse and neglect reporting laws. The training will follow the curriculum set forth by law and will include: an overview of child welfare and Summit County Children Services; statistical information; definitions of the indicators of child abuse and neglect; a discussion of mandated reporting; and strategies for intervention, strengthening of families, and prevention of child abuse.

Program participants will also receive a special Child Abuse & Neglect Awareness Kit that includes educational information and materials that can be shared with clergy leaders and lay members of church congregations.
