Why Eat Strawberries?
The nutrients in strawberries help improve the kidneys, lungs, liver, spleen, digestive and respiratory systems. Their unique nutritive value supports the body in reversing heart disease and high blood pressure. Contained in strawberry fruit, anthocyanins are potent antioxidants. Anthocyanins have been shown to protect the body's cell structures and prevent oxygen damage in all of the body's organ systems.
Strawberries are a very good source of iodine, omega-3 fatty acids, folate, magnesium and dietary fiber.
Minted Strawberry Lemonade
If you desire . pour some of this mixture into fancy ice cube molds and freeze. After frozen, arrange cubes in a long stem goblet for a frozen delight. Or . place one or two frozen cubes into a glass of this lemonade for a chilling thrill!
Lemon juice, fresh
Thaw frozen, freshly squeezed lemon juice or juice lemons.
Set aside.
Prepare then place the following ingredients into blender:
Spearmint or peppermint leaves, fresh
Strawberries, fresh preferred or frozen
Hull berries then weigh.
Blend spearmint, strawberries and honey until very smooth. Add lemon juice, and blend again. Place strawberry puree and 6 cups water into a gallon jug. Shake well.
Notes
*1 Seek out wild strawberries (fraises des bois) for their wonderful sapor and tremendous nutrition.
*2 Hulling a strawberry is to remove its green leafy cap and stem.
*3 Recipe Variation: Substitute spearmint with either 4 ounces sorrel leaves, 6 tablespoons fennel fronds or orange mint leaves.
*4 For best flavor and best nutrition, choose foods that are heirloom, grown sustainably, organically or biodynamically.
