Today, Speaker of the House Representative Gordon Fox’s (D-Dist. 4, Providence) office was raided by officials from the FBI along with the IRS, Rhode Island State Police and the U.S. Attorney General’s Office.

According to News Radio 920 WHJJ, Fox’s office was raided by the federal officials this morning as part of an ongoing criminal investigation. The matter under investigation was not released by the authorities to the public.

The news site GoLocalProv reported that the U.S. Attorney General’s Office for the district of Rhode Island announced that the Internal Revenue Service is currently involved in an investigation in Rhode Island. Officials announced this information after the authorities had searched the speaker’s office this morning.

The Associated Press reported that the federal officials would not go into detail to if Speaker Gordon Fox was under investigation. Instead, the official speaking for the U.S. Attorney General’s office stated “two federal search warrants had been executed, but he wouldn't say whether they were connected to Fox”.
