Speaker Gingrich topples Romney in South Carolina

A grass roots insurgency lead by former speaker of the house Newt Gingrich resulted in a devastating primary defeat for the establishment candidate Governor Mitt Romney, What exit polls anticipate has a double digit victory for Gingrich, also had democrats like congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz who look to the fall general election, telling the media she would be celebrating the Gingrich win tonight.

Democratic leaders and operatives have in recent days expressed the opinion, if given the choice they would prefer an Obama-Gingrich match up in the fall, however recent revelations concerning Governor Romney’s finances and stumbling hesitation to release multiple years of tax returns as all the other candidates have pledged or already done, does give them pause on which nominee would in their view be the preferable choice to run against.

The Republican establishment, Fox news and the main stream media share a consensus of conviction that Speaker Gingrich, despite the massive victory this evening, even if it were possible for him to win the nomination, he would be unable to defeat President Obama in the fall, most pundits point to his negative’s as the reason he would be unable to win a general election, of course these same folks have pontificated and issued declaratives for months that Newt was going to be election road kill by Iowa.

Cable pundits are seldom accurate prognosticators, which makes average folks all the more skeptical of their self serving sense of political infallibility. Despite assurances over the last few months that Mitt Romney would more or less have the nomination wrapped up by the close of business today, reality has reared its ugly head, not only has Mitt Romney failed to lock up the nomination, he technically isn’t even the front runner anymore.

In response to his victory, some in the establishment, Fox news and the main stream media are already suggesting the blow out at best is simply a vanity victory for Newt Gingrich.

This evening’s results if nothing else redefine the race for the republican nomination; it’s no longer a coronation process for Governor Romney and the establishment courtiers.

South Carolina became a battle in what will be a month’s long political civil war in the Grand Old Party, Unreported as of yet were the most serious casualties, Tea Party turn coats, like Governor Nikki Haley who made the mistake of accepting as gospel the doctrine of Fox news and the establishment and turned her back on the very grass roots voters who put her in office. Doubtless Mitt will offer her a found fare ado on the tarmac as he races to the waiting campaign jet, to get his wounded campaign the hell out of the State.
