It's not what you say, it's who says it. Power brings the privilege of voice. It's also not the content of your speech that counts, but the style, the pomp, and the rhetorical cleverness that scores pop points. Truth, moreover, that doesn't serve certain agenda's, that truth is no longer Truth, but hate speech.
This is the world in which we live. A world full of animosity toward the Word of God.
"'Behold, I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.' But they cried out in a loud voice, covered their ears, and rushed upon him together. They threw him out of the city, and began to stone him." Acts 6:8-10; 7:54-59
Speak of the sanctity of marriage, between a man and a woman, and expect a stone. Speak of the Right to Life, from conception to natural death, then duck! Speak of Jesus as the One Mediator between God and man, expect a Jihad. Put Christ back in Christmas and expect coal in your stocking. Truth, for our fallen nation, is no longer found in history, nor is it found through faith in God, rather, it is re-created at the whim of salespeople, politicians, ideologues, and anti-Christs.
Speak the truth--wear a helmet!
"Rescue me from the clutches of my enemies and my persecutors. Let your face shine upon your servant;
save me in your kindness." Psalm 31:3-4, 6, 8, 16-17
The Divine Irony is that this is the expected goal of Christian life. Fallen men and women are called to preach transcendence to fallen men and women…and rocks will fly. Jesus halted one stoning himself; St. Stephen was stoned for evangelizing…while Saul (the future St. Paul) approved. Our Lord would have been stoned by his own townspeople if it weren't for the fact that the Father had a greater Cross for Him.
The point is, God's got our back--He foresees our adversary, and will grace us to greatness in Truth testified.
"You will be hated by all because of my name, but whoever endures to the end will be saved.” Matthew 10:17-22
Sadly, what the world hates most (Truth), is intimately tied with what it desires most (Mercy, Love). Truth is hated because, before it converts, it convicts. Admit it, when we see our ugliness, before it saves us, it kills us! Sometimes, human beings would rather kill the Truth, or the truth's messenger, than die a thousand deaths of Truth.
Therein lies the battle.
