(Psalms 131:1-3) A Song of Ascents. Of David. O LORD, my heart is not lifted up; my eyes are not raised too high; I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me. But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me. O Israel, hope in the LORD from this time forth and forevermore.
(Romans 11:33-36) Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! "For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?" "Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?" For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.
In today's Psalm, David speaks openly and honestly to the Lord. He speaks to Him in a way and about a topic he would probably not speak to any human being; David speaks to God about his unfaithfulness. But immediately, in the same short Psalm, David speaks of his turning to the Lord for comfort and quieting. He uses the relationship between a weaned child and his mother as the closest relationship that could describe David's relationship to God.
God has depth that exceeds any person; depth of knowledge, of wisdom, and of love. God desires that depth of relationship with every one of His people. He desires that depth of relationship with you. Take everything in your life to God. Speak to Him about your innermost fears, thoughts, feelings, and desires; things that you would not speak openly about to any other person. God will comfort you, He will advise you, He will correct you, and He will get you back on the path when you stray from it.
The depth of God's love and faithfulness to you far exceeds any depth of unfaithfulness of which you are capable. Today and every day, speak openly to the Lord.
