York College was able to get revenge on the TCNJ women’s basketball team.
In their last meeting, the Lions were able to beat the Spartans in the November 2010 game. But yesterday, the Spartans were able to beat the Lions.
The Spartans was able to win 56-48 on Sunday afternoon in their Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. The host Spartans won the championship of their tournament with the victory.
The Spartans improved to 10-0 on the season. The Lions dropped to 8-3 on the season, as their 7-game win streak was snapped in the loss.
York was able to have a double-digit lead for much of the second half. TCNJ was not able to get within 10 points until the final minute.
The Spartans were up 54-35 with about seven minutes left in the game. But the Lions didn’t lie down as they faced nearly a twenty point deficit.
They would start their comeback, as sophomore Tiffany DeTulio got the Lions within 12 points at 56-44 when she made a lay up with 1:46 left in the game. On the Lions next position, Candace Vigo made a pair of free throws to make it 56-46.
In the final seconds, Vigo was able to score again to make it 56-48.
She had a season-high 15 points in the game. In addition, she was named to the All-Tournament team.
The Spartans were up 31-20 at the half. And they were able to score 12 of the game’s 16 points to go into the break.
The Spartans went on a run after the Lions cut their lead to 19-16. The Lions went on an 8-2 run behind the shooting of Angelica Esposito, Kelly Coughlin, and Kylie O’Donnell.
Esposito and Coughlin each made a three-pointer, before O’Donnell made a basket in the 8-2 run.
The Lions had an early 5-0 lead to start the game, and then the Spartans went on a run of their own. They went on a 17-3 run to make it 17-8.
The Spartans would use this early lead and build on it throughout the game, as the Lions would not be able to overcome the Spartans lead.
