'Spartacus: Blood and Sand' may be on hold due to Andy Whitefield's cancer

The end of "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" could be upon us -- at least for the time being. After series star Andy Whitfield announced that his cancer had relapsed, he had to quickly come up with some sort of solution as to what to do next. Ultimately, the decision was made to temporarily leave the show.

With that in mind, the future of the show is somewhat in doubt. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, show executive producer Stephen S. DeKnight had this to say about the show's future:

“The two main options are to close up shop or recast. I want to talk to Andy and find out how he feels about the options. That’s obviously very important to us.

“We’re still absorbing what’s happened. I think it’s going to be a little while before we reach any conclusions.”

A prequel series -- entitled "Gods of the Arena" -- is scheduled to air in early 2011. What do you think the show should do about Whitfield's role?

They can always get someone else to replace Andy BUT the show will not be the same!
