Game Dates: Wednesday, July 17 - Thursday, July 18
Sitting one game behind a fierce Minnesota Team, the red-hot LA Sparks will be looking to take down a tough Atlanta team that leads the East Conference with the second best record in the WNBA. They take the court at STAPLES Center tonight at 7:30 p.m.
After a mediocre 5-4 star, the LA Sparks have exploded onto a five game win streak while averaging 93.6 points a game. On the season-high streak, the Sparks have won by an average margin of 18.6 points.
Meanwhile, the Atlanta Dream have begun to stall a little and are trying to avoid their first 3-game slide since the beginning of the 2011 season. This will be tough, however, as the Sparks have been making nearly half the shots they take this season and lead the league in both points per game (85.8) as well as assists per game (19.6). Los Angeles boasts an impressive 8-0 record at home.
After the Dream, the LA Sparks will shift their attention to a fiery Phoenix Mercury team on Thursday at 7 p.m. With the two most potent offenses in the WNBA, it will most certainly be a shootout at STAPLES Center.
“We want to get out in transition, we want to run, rebound the basketball and quick outlet,” said forward Candace Parker. Parker has been averaging over 23 points in the last six games.
The Sparks will have their hands full as Diana Taurasi looks to attack alongside of rookie Britney Griner to try and inch the Mercury closer to the top of the standings.
