Sparkling Portrait claimed the Listed Glasgow Stakes at Hamilton on Thursday night. The three-year-old colt is trained by Richard Fahey and barely edged out second finisher Goldoni by three-quarters of a length. Sparkling Portrait’s prior meeting was at Royal Ascot earlier this summer. The colt was bred by Dukes Stud and Overbury Stallions and will look to build a winning streak in the Group 2 Great Voltigeur Stakes at York.

“I’m absolutely thrilled, this is great compensation for Royal Ascot,” owner Mike Browne told racingpost.com. “He clipped heels there, Paul (Hanagan) lost his irons, and he still managed to finish seventh. He’s entered in the Great Voltigeur, whether he goes to York or not I don´t know.”

In other news and across the Atlantic, a court in New York court upheld thoroughbred trainer Rick Dutrow Jr.'s 10-year ban from the sport for drug violations. Dutrow has won the prestigious Kentucky Derby. However, his license was ordered revoked by the New York Racing and Wagering Board last year.

In 2009, breeder Ernie Paragallo was meted a lifetime ban after malnourished horses were found at his Hudson Valley farm.
