A tasting event featuring sparkling wines is seldom a bad thing. Sparkling Pointe Vineyards has scheduled one that promises to be extra enjoyable -- its 3rd annual "Tête de Cuvée."
For those unfamiliar with what that means, the organizers have this simple explanation: "A tête de cuvée wine represents the most meticulously selected, most expensive and highest quality in a house's range."
A panel of experts will lead the tasting, scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, January 25, at the Sparkling Pointe Tasting House, 39750 County Route 48 in Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island. Sparkling Pointe is known for its méthode champenoise wines.
A limited number of tickets is available at $115 per person by calling (631) 765-0200 or reserving online.
The wines to be sampled include:
• Chardonnay Dominance -- Ridgeview Wine Estates, Bloomsbury, England; Trump SP Blanc de Blanc, Virginia; Sparkling Pointe Blanc de Blancs Magnum Selection.
• Champagne Showdown -- Armand de Brignac Brut Gold (Ace of Spades); Louis Roederer Brut Champagne Crtistal; Sparkling Pointe Brut Seduction.
• Shades of Rosé -- Ruinart Brut Rosé; Veuve Cliquot Brut Rosé La Grande Dame; Sparkling Pointe Blanc de Noirs.
