Spring is the season for the arrival of baby birds. Children find the story of the baby bird hatching from an egg in the nest into a young bird learning to fly fascinating. Use the theme of baby birds to inspire children to move and get physically active. Begin this movement activity by taking the children on a nature walk and look for bird nests. Watch the bird nest and observe for any activity.
Upon returning from the nature walk have a "circle time" discussion about all the things the children saw along the way. Have the children use their imaginations and create movements for the various things they observed. Share/move the cycle of a baby bird (egg in the nest, hatching, and learning to fly).
