Spanish cello & guitar duo Maruri & Jones perform in Saugerties March 10

A new addition to Saugerties Pro Musica’s world-class spring schedule is the cello & guitar duo, Maruri & Jones, returning after a several-year hiatus to perform on Sunday, March 10, at 3 p.m.

The Spain-based musicians enjoy an active concert and recording career as one of the only established cello / guitar duos in the world. They have performed for the Saugerties Pro Musica audience three times over the course of their career. In fact, whenever they plan a tour of North America they include us in their schedule. This season’s tour includes Manhattan, Saugerties, Toronto and Chicago.

Their program is a mix of classics and modern pieces with both classical and folk roots:

  • BENEDETTO MARCELLO, (1686-1739) "SONATA in G ", in four movements
  • Franz Schubert ( 1797- 1828) "Sonata Arpeggione", in three movements
  • DREW HEMENGER, (b. 1968) "SONGS FROM AMERICA" after traditional American Folk Songs, in four movements
  • ERIK MARCHELIE (b.1957 ) Don Quijote y Dulcinea
  • MANUEL DE FALLA, (1876-1946) "SUITE ESPAÑOLA", in two movements
  • (to see their complete program)

Please join us for this rare and thrilling musical experience. Call your friends and make it a party! Plan to attend one or all of the last three classical concerts this season. On March 24th the Colorado String Quartet returns to our stage in a rare NE appearance, then on April 28, 2013 the Merling Trio (piano, violin, cello) and, to close our season, the Catskill Glee Club returns for their annual concert in May 5, 2013.

All concerts are on Sunday at 3 PM, at Saugerties United Methodist Church on the corner of Washington Avenue & Post Street. General Admission is $12 for Adults, Seniors $10. Students are always FREE - kindly invite some to join you at our concerts. For more information please call: 845-679-5733, 845-246-5021 or visit our website.

Saugerties Pro Musica is a not-for-profit, 17 year-old concert series in Saugerties, New York. We offer top musicians at the height of their careers for the very reasonable price of $12. You would have to pay two or three times that anywhere else - if anywhere else could even get them! Spend an afternoon with friends listening to some great music, then join the musicians in conversation at the free reception afterwards. See you Sunday.
